KVPY is a Scholarship Examination in Basic Sciences for class XI, XII and 1st year B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S
Purpose of Examination
To identify students with talent and aptitude for research and encourage them to take up research careers in Science.
Notification
The advertisement for this examination appears in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
Examination Time
Examination is normally held in the 1st week of November
Result
The results of Aptitude test are generally declared in the second fortnight of December
Interview
Interviews are normally conducted in the month of January and February
Final Rank
Final rank is normally declared in March end. The merit list is based on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weight-age for the interview marks.
Exam Pattern
- The duration of test is 3 hours (9.30 a. m. To 12.30 p. m.). The examination paper consists of multiple choice questions of 100 marks.
- For 11th class category, the paper has two parts. Part I consists of four sections (each containing 15 questions) and Part II also consists of four sections (each containing 5 questions). All questions are compulsory.
- For 12th class and B. Sc. 1st year category, the paper has two parts. Part I consists of four sections (each containing 20 questions) and Part II also consists of four sections (each containing 10 questions). All questions in any THREE of the four sections in Part I, and any TWO of the four sections in Part II are to be attempted and solved.
Syllabus
